Hispanic Quick Start Kit available
MADISON, Wis. (3/30/06)--A project management tool for credit unions looking to service the Hispanic market is available from the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) and its Hispanic Outreach Advisory Task Force through funds from the National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF). “Hispanic Quick Start Kit: A Step-by-Step Guide for Credit Unions” is available as a free download at CUNA’s website under the Hispanic Resource Center (use the resource link). The 20-step project management plan offers sample business plans, marketing programs, PowerPoint presentations, identification tools, policies and procedures. The kit contains samples from 115 credit unions nationwide, plus materials for building an outreach program at the credit union. “No one can argue the need to serve the Hispanic market,” notes CUNA President/CEO Dan Mica. “It’s the fastest growing segment of the U.S. population, accounting for more than 40% of the nation’s annual population growth since 2000.” Both Mica and task force Chair Danielle Chatfield of KEMBA Financial CU, Columbus, Ohio, believe reaching out to the Hispanic market is consistent with good credit union philosophy and good business principles. Providing the kit via the web enables continual updating based on suggestions from credit unions and the task force, Chatfield said. “Think of this resource as a project management plan,” she says, adding it is designed for use “in its entirety or by individual steps. While you’ll have to do your own local research, many tools within the kit will help you get started locally.” Amy M.
