CUNA school grads present record scholarship monies to school

MADISON, Wis. - This year’s 60 graduates of CUNA Management School in Madison presented a record $34,000 in scholarship monies - the largest class donation ever for the school’s scholarship fund - during their July 19 graduation ceremony.

Graduates of the CUNA Management School’s class of 2007 included Deborah Humbles of New Mexico Educators Federal Credit Union in Albuquerque, who graduated with high honors.
In this year’s class, 24 graduated with honors and 12 graduated with high honors. Additionally, the student with the highest overall average - Jennifer Hoyle of Isabella Community CU in Mount Pleasant, Mich. - graduated with highest honors.

The scholarship money presented by the class was raised over the course of the three-year professional development program through a variety of fundraising events held each summer during the school’s two-week session, as well as through individual donations by credit unions and the graduates themselves. The fundraisers included selling merchandise, silent auctions, game nights, raffles, golf outings, and more.

The scholarship fund - comprised of donations from the graduating class, U.S. Central, CUNA Mutual Group, and CUNA - are earmarked to help smaller credit unions and individuals without financial resources available to become future CUNA Management School attendees. This year, 67 students were awarded scholarships. Scholarship forms and additional information for 2008 will be available on CUNA’s Web site in January.

CUNA Management School in Madison is the longest-running continuing education program in the credit union movement, consisting of a two-week session each summer for three years.  Nearly 4,500 men and women have graduated from the program since its inception in 1954.
